Saffron is still a premium spice product, which is known for its luxurious nature also famously known as “Kesar”. Around 150 blue crocus flowers are needed to produce 1 gram of saffron. Tiny pinch of this rich spice can uplift the colour, flavour and aroma of the dish. It is a rich source of minerals like copper, potassium, calcium, manganese, iron, zinc, selenium and magnesium.
Saffron packaging design has a lot to do with storytelling. Wherein brands focus on legacy oriented, historic themes of emperor or kingdom, origin specifications, or saffron extracting story. Such stories with less spaces sometimes can look messy if not done creatively.
A lot of brands prefers PET bottles, tin cans and transparent bottles. Containers which are transparent, customers can have a visual feel before shedding the bulk of amount. In the case of transparent bottles, the label is preferred so that the product is visible. If the size of the box or container is small, then the logo is embossed elegantly with contrasting colours on the background of packaging. Brand logo and tagline plays a very crucial role because when people buy expensive products, they are specific about the brand name.
The golden colour is preferred to display the nature of product being luxurious and premium. Purple, orange, red are frequently seen colours on saffron box packaging. Too many images on packaging may create mis-communication among the audience. Hence images of the crocus flower, actual Kesar image are majorly used so that people can have clarity on what they are purchasing.

Content mentioned on the label should include nutritional information, the origin of the manufacturer, quantity, bar code, pricing. Saffron is also used as gift boxes in marriages, traditional rituals and other occasions in such cases colours used in packaging should be vibrant and eye-catchy.
In 2020, packaging product in a plastic box and further blister sealed is in trend with packaging card being of any creative shape. Packaging card will make customers feel good while buying something so tiny for so much of money. The packaging of saffron should ensure to treasure aroma, taste for a lifetime. It should be pack with correctly sealed containers that will keep the product away from exposure to air and humidity. As saffron is a product whose positioning is premium, hence packaging, colours and images should be aligned with overall designing.
