The label design of a beverage product acts as a central stone for different purposes, including brand awareness, promotion, distinction and other design details. We can certainly state it as a central component of any product, which gives it a competitive advantage over competitors.

From small grocery stores to top-rated e-commerce platforms, product labelling is everywhere. A perfect label design is one that not only enhances the visual experience but credibly prompts consumers to make a purchase. Therefore, it’s an extremely productive way of bringing a solid branded look to a product and fascinating as many customers as possible.

The major success of every label design depends on how creative you execute the design. Labelling is carried out not only for promotion and branding but also for offering, gifts and favours. Thus, becoming unique or distinct is essential to communicating authentic emotions to your product.

What’s your brand and its audience?

Before dipping straight into the design process, you need to have a clear idea of who you are and whom you are focusing on, i.e. target audience. Suppose you develop a brand from scratch with all amenities that don’t meet your target audience; then, people won’t purchase it.

If your company already has a solid and well-established brand that meets the target audience, you pitched great! Once you achieve the step, it’s essential to design a label that reflects the brand, ensuring the customers who are fond of your company will be attracted to your products. (source)

It’s always better to evaluate who you are by asking yourself questions like; To whom do you want to attract? What are their values? Their habits? Their style? How it’s applicable to use? The more clearly you can identify the audience, the better result can be achieved.

Design Process of an Appealing Can Label Design

Let’s discuss the design process that needs to be followed for an appealing can label design:

1. Measure the Can:

Before you start sketching your beverage label design, take a moment to contemplate the Can. A Can comes in different sizes and shapes. You’ll need to design your label with the Can you consider using in mind.

There are two options, either you can wrap the ruler around the Can and check the dimensions, or else you can get it from the printer. If you are planning to create a full-wrap label, make sure to add 1/4th to the total measurements so that we can ensure it overlaps both the ends.

2. Consider Your Brand:

Even in the current scenario, only 25% of companies have proper brand guidelines. Doing such results in the struggle to maintain consistency, which generates confusion and fails to build brand recognition.

So, you need to consider your brand and target audience. Make extensive research on your brand and target audience. While sketching, your brand helps follow the same pattern and styles, thus maintaining consistency as an overall result.

3. Determine Your Visual Identity:

As the old saying “A picture can represent a thousand words” the visual elements you choose can express a powerful story about who you are and must therefore be considered with care.

Suppose, for example, a company trying to build a hip and energetic brand that uses an unpatterned white label with gold lettering. Doing so will generate an impression that this brand is conservative and traditional.

Here are some of the elements to consider when selecting the visual elements of your label:

1. Colour Psychology:

Before entering into label colours, initially look at your product’s packaging colour. If you are using brown beer bottles, cans, or glass jars, it’s essential to keep your packaging in mindset so that your label and packaging colour compliments each other. For example, a chocolate brown label that is elegant on a clear can may look odd in a green Can, right? So it’s essential to know the tones and act accordingly.

Bright colours like yellow, orange and neon colours can create a different energy level to your label, but at the same time, if it gets overexposed results in overwhelming.

2. Typography:

Just as colours, the fonts you choose for your label design can do or die your brand identity. While the current trends like Arial, Helvetica, and Georgia can give a traditional or legacy look that may perfectly blend with your brand image.

Indeed, many breweries and other small food and beverage producers are switching to fonts that look like they came from a fountain pen or typewriter to highlight the reliability and quality of their products

3. Imagery:

The use of imagery is an essential tool in creating the best label designs. Having strong imageries gives a greater communicative power than any other elements. For example, a person who does not have a clear understanding of hair oil when shopping meets with many brands under the same segment. And it’s only with the help of solid imagery they can differentiate a product from others.

Thus, ensure your product imagery meets the stories and product’s message.

Some of the most popular Beverage Product Label Design Trends

Now let’s discuss some of the popular beverage product label design trends:

1. Simple, Strong & Multicoloured:

As the famous saying states, “simplicity is the utmost sophistication” the same goes with Can labelling. Making your design simple, solid and basic is necessary as you can focus on the essential details with a minimalistic approach that customers look for the product.

The essential elements of a simplistic design are product name, features, USP, and an understandable symbol.

Also, at the current time, people don’t give enough time to go through all details on the label. Making the labels bold and multi-coloured gives them their inevitable appearance that grabs their eye-balls.

2. Effects with Holograms:

Implementing holographic effects on the can label is one of the best trends that has been nailed completely. The current era is the age of HD and 3D, even VFX and CGI are extensively used in movies, so it’s high time to work out something similar like a 3D holographic effect.

Until then, logos were used as a significant focus for branding, but holography puts the Can in the spotlight, making the whole product look like a unique package.

The holographic effect specifically appeases when products are stacked-up on supermarket shelves, and customers have only a few seconds to select one. Without any doubt, the 3D holographic finish is a visual treat to whoever watches the Can.

3. Illustrations as a mode of expression:

One distinct way of designing Can labels is to implement illustrations as narratives. If you want to generate trust, the best way is to create a story and represent it in the form of illustrations. A unique illustration helps get people’s attention and leads to consumer purchasing behaviour.

Such a design style is really astonishing as it leads people to a fantasy world. People look out and admire those stories that they can relate to themselves. Even such storytelling type on beverage Cans can put across a solid message, which makes it reach the next level when we go for personalizing the labels.

4. Vintage is the new modern:

Vintage designs haven’t lost their essence even in the present time. However, their brightness is still bursting because the authenticity has its own magic. Nothing attracts your target audience more than distinct, memorable and authentic labelling. However, a vintage Metal Can design doesn’t mean it’s boring and obsolete; instead, it has the speciality of keeping the character intact.

Also, in the current time, there are the latest tech and materials introduced in the market that can flourish your design and gives the feel of both vintage and modern.
